A gasser is a type of hot rod that grew in popularity until the early 70's. They are stripped of any extra weight and jacked up using a beam axle which provides better weight distribution during hard acceleration. With fiberglass body panels and stripped out interiors these cars were designed to go fast in a straight line. The name arose because they competed in a gasoline-fueled drag racing class, rather than one using methanol or nitromethane. This 62 ford falcon is possibly one the nicer gassers to be built. Typically gassers are a little rough around edges due to the hard lives they live at the track. This car is a fresh with only 3600 miles on it since completion. The jail bird gained itã¢?? S due to its history. As part of a project to keep prisoners engaged and teach a useful trade, this falcon spent 3 years in the kentucky state corrections body shop. The falcon was completely disassembled, reassembled twice for fitment, and then disassembled for paint. Cool hand lukeã¢?â had been involved in such a project, he would have spent less time in the hot box. The resurrection of this bird has documented with photos, included in the sale, and receipts of all parts purchased. Under the original steel hood is a chevrolet 350 cid engine. Power goes from the engine to a turbo 350 automatic, and then makes it way to a custom built ford 9 inch rear end . A quick look in the cabin will reveal an interior much nicer than a normal gasser would sport. The front buckets and rear seat have been cover in very tasteful black and white vinyl. Carpet has also been installed giving this gasser a much plusher look than normal look. In 62 ford would introduce two new series the galaxie 500 and 500xl. Available in 11 different interiors and 13 different paint colors the possibilities were virtually endless. Ford had also done some improvements on ride quality and noise control making the 500's a fierce competitor for chevy's impala. This 62 appears to be a completely original car with no signs of even a repaint. The body is in excellent condition with no signs of body work ever being performed the sheet metal is as straight as they get. The corinthian white paint is in good shape but for being almost 60 years old it is unbelievable condition. The raven black top gives the car a very sleek look and actually makes the top seem lower than what it is. All of the chrome and bright work is in good condition with some pitting starting but no rust. Open the door and the bucket seats upfront are separated by a console that houses the automatic shifter giving the 62 a much sportier feel. The red interior is in great condition with no rips or stains. The material itself is still in great condition with the red not showing any signs of fading and still feels soft to the touch. Matched up to the classic cruise o matic transmission, shifts are nice and smooth matching the cars characteristics to a t.
