Good early examples finally seem to be gaining some traction in the marketplace but for collectors, though, ultraclean, low-miles early miatas like this example are the most desired! Built on october 1, 1989 in hiroshima, japan, this car entered the us at port hueneme, california and was sold in port midlothian, texas (gulf coast mazda). The original kansas family owners had the miata all the way to 2014 and then sold it to the previous owner in neighboring kansas city. There are not many unmolested stock earl na mx-5s left like this one with fewer than 30,000 original miles on the clock! An aluminum sump with cooling fins is an unusual feature of this engine. The standard transmission was a five-speed manual, a unit derived from the one used in the mazda 929. The gearshift was the subject of close attention during development, with engineers told to make it shift in as small a gear pattern as possible and with minimal effort. The car’s original crystal white paint and associated trim is in excellent shape, with only the most minor of blemishes possibly visible upon very close inspection. The glass panels are in excellent order, too, and it has a new robbins black vinyl folding top (installed october 30, 2015) with no rear window defroster but the backlight is glass, not plastic. This little roadster’s body panels are all solid and straight, the engine bay is very tidy and the cargo area and battery are both in good order. Driver convenience features include air conditioning that still blow cold, power steering and power brakes (“a” package). Inside, the car’s original black bucket seats are in very excellent shape, with matching carpet in good order. It’s within the center storage binnacle, under the driver’s right arm. The door panels, mirror glass, center console and shift lever are all in very good condition. Rounding off the interior is a factory am/fm stereo with cd player and cassette. The body shell of the na was all-steel with a lightweight aluminum hood. Overall dimensions were 156 inches in length, 65. 9 inches in width and 48. 6 inches in height. Without options, the na weighed only 2,150 lbs. Drag coefficient was indicated as 0. 38. Documentation includes original owner’s manual, original brochure, copy of autocheck history report and more than $800 worth of vehicle maintenance and service tickets including a new oem timing belt and hoses. According to the autocheck report, this vehicle has not been in any accidents since new or had any other issues reported. Competition to this mazda in 1990 included alfa romeo’s spider, bmw’s 318i cabrio and mercury’s capri convertible. Current mileage on the odometer shows 29,485 miles and is actual by proof of the carfax and the warranty/service history provided.
